A serial killer murders lottery winners. How scary is that?

Nigel Heath wants to be the next Boston Pops conductor. A compulsive gambler, he's deeply in debt. He's also madly in love with Vicky, a Pops clarinetist. When he wins the lottery, he thinks his problems are over, but they're just beginning. Winning the lottery can kill you!

This is the 5th book I have read from Susan Fleet. Frank Renzi is one of my favorite detectives. I love the stories created in New Orleans, however this book caught my attention, because it cleared up Frank's pre Nawlins life.

It is fast paced and has some nasty twists and sadist murders. I highly recommend to those who love the thrill of a twisted web of deceit with a killer that tortures and kills mercilessly.

Jackpot a Frank Renzi novel edition by Susan Fleet Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

For those who already know Detective Frank Renzi-you will be reading this book for that very reason. If you haven't met Frank -you need to become acquainted. Det. Renzi is a down to earth person, with all the problems the rest of us face everyday - marriage and relationship problems, kid problems and middle age. Add to those, the most horrific job of police work. Somebody is killing lottery winners, in serial type fashion. This book introduces us to a cast of characters from the sometimes Conductor of the Boston Pops. to the victims and the villain. All of these characters are well developed and the author gives us enough info to make us care about what happens to them. This is the fourth book in the series- and each has been great. Ms. Fleet keeps finding ways to keep us interested.
My father-in-law used to say he did not play the lottery because with his luck he'd win, die of a heart attack from shock, and never get to enjoy one penny of it. Because of that, this story line caught my eye.

Niles Heath is a gambler who plays the lottery hoping to get out of a financial hole. Little did he know that winning the lottery would not be a means to an end, but bring about the end for all things that really mattered to him.

Winning the lottery can be deadly... especially when there is a killer of the loose! Finding out who the lottery winners are is easy, being a cable repairman gains easy access to the winners' homes. Staying one-step ahead of the police is another matter.
I wish I had read this one first?

Jackpot by Susan Fleet was purchased on my through . I was reading the series of Fleet books on the detective Frank Renzi and his exploits and the I was presented with this “Jackpot” as a prequel. It is a very interesting read and goes into further detail about the trials and tribulations of Renzi previous marriage and it clears up a lot of questions that I had in the three previous novels. Fleet is an excellent writer and keeps you totally involved in her plots. She creates a villain that you find yourself puling for her to escape. Read the series and discover this for yourself. You will be glad you did!
This fourth book in the Frank Renzi series is my favorite ... so far ... although all Ms. Fleet's books are worthy of reading.

Centered (mostly) around the Boston environs, it includes the orchestral arena, of which the author is well versed ... the domestic violence arena ... of which this reader is well versed .. and the brutality of gruesome murders of elder lottery winners. Included is a peek into detective Renzi's personal life, which isn't all that peachy.

This book is not a fairy tale with a happily ever after but it is sure to give you much to think about as to what can ... and actually does happen ... in real life ... and how to protect yourself against it. Not for the faint of heart!

Write on, Susan!
I'm glad that I gave this book a chance. It's got everything a suspense book lover would want- great storyline (with the murder of lottery winners), characters, action, mystery, romance, emotion, and both great character and plot development. This is the first thriller that I've read where a killer deviates from his or her MO; instead, he escalates into different methods and variations of murder. Due to mental issues, besides a history of mental and verbal abuse from friends and family, that the killer has experienced, it's hard to anticipate what his next move will be sometimes. Throughout it all, there are wonderful, heartwarming characters like Detective Frank Renzi who counteracts the killer's every move to prevent the next murder, all while he's going through heartbreaking life events like accumluation of debt, divorce and bad alternate living conditions. In fact, most of the characters have personal issues that makes the reader empathize with them, and making those characters and circumstances that they find themselves in more realistic and believable. Overall, I'm glad that I've read this book. Most likely in the near future, I will pick up another book in Susan Fleet's Frank Renzi mystery series for more reading pleasure. Please get a copy of this book, if you haven't done so already. You will thank me and end up like me, not being able to put the book down until you get to the last page!
If you have not yet read any of the Frank Renzi novels I suggest that you do so. There are six but not necessary to read them in order. I read Natalie’s Art first and then Missing. Fell in love with the main character and had to read Jackpot which is a prequel to the other novels and takes place in Boston rather than New Orleans. Being a Boston girl I could not resist. Frank is someone you have known all your life. He is a great guy. Compassionate, kind, caring, flawed and vulnerable. I love Susan’s attention to detail. If you are familiar with the area, it is a trip down Memory Lane. Susan’s descriptions of situations and characters are so relateable. I love her writing style. Jackpot is a first-rate suspense novel, and I highly recommend it.
